Eligibility
I'm an existing patient. How do I get started?
You qualify if you have had a dental checkup and cleaning within the past six months and have no active gum (periodontal) disease or untreated cavities.
I'm a new patient. How do I qualify?
New patients qualify after completing a comprehensive exam, X-rays, and a cleaning, provided there is no active gum (periodontal) disease or untreated cavities.
What is the minimum age requirement for teeth whitening?
We recommend waiting until a patient is at least 14 to 16 years old, when all permanent adult teeth fully erupt and enamel is fully matured, before undergoing any teeth whitening treatments.
About the Treatment
How does Zoom! take-home whitening work?
- Digital Scan: During a short office visit, we take a digital scan of your teeth.
- Custom Trays: We use the scan to create whitening trays made to fit your teeth precisely, for even, effective results.
- Whitening At Home: Once your trays are ready, you continue your treatment comfortably at home.
How long until I see results?
We recommend wearing the trays for 30 minutes a day. Most patients see optimal results within two weeks. Your kit includes six syringes of whitening gel (14% Hydrogen Peroxide), enough for 18 sessions when used as directed.
Results and Safety
How long do whitening results last?
Your teeth are unlikely to return to their original shade. Over time, however, they may gradually pick up some staining, especially if you smoke or regularly consume pigmented foods and drinks such as berries, coffee, tea, or red wine. Many patients choose a touch-up treatment once or twice a year. Your dentist can recommend the right maintenance plan for you.
Is Zoom! take-home whitening safe for my teeth?
Yes. Phillips Zoom! whitening products are proven safe on tooth enamel while still delivering effective whitening.
Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?
Some patients experience mild, temporary sensitivity during treatment. Phillips Zoom! take-home products are formulated to minimize whitening-related sensitivity, and in customer surveys most users reported little to no sensitivity. Brushing your teeth with Sensodyne toothpaste for two weeks prior and during whitening treatment will help minimize any sensitivity.
Can I whiten if I have crowns, veneers, or fillings?
Yes, but whitening gel does not change the color of dental restorations, so existing crowns, veneers, and fillings will stay their current shade. Please talk with your dentist before starting so you can get consistent, natural-looking results.
